This client had a very strong sense of style and knew exactly how she wanted to finished room to look and feel. However there was a stumbling block that she just couldn’t get past.
Many years previously, the couple had bought a beautiful statement mirror whilst on holiday together; not only did the couple love the piece, but it had strong sentimental value as well and they really wanted it to have pride of place in their living room.
The problem was the picture rail that ran around the room. This original feature meant that the space above the fireplace where the mirror should go, just wasn’t big enough and the mirror looked wrong on any other wall. After some deliberation, my solution was to remove the picture rail on just the chimney breast wall, allowing the mirror to be hung at the correct height above the fireplace.
This solution, combined with built in shelving and storage units that reach the height of the original picture rail in the recesses on either side of the fireplace, means that the whole wall looks liked it has always been like that.
The client’s combination of muted soft grey tones works wonderfully together to create an inviting, comfortable, yet ‘grown-up’ room. It’s an incredibly restful place to sit & soak up the view from that amazing window seat.
