The project began because the client was given a fantastic 1960’s Orange Glass Light fitting. From this they visualised a large open kitchen diner & sitting area where they could entertain in a more relaxed way to their formal dining room.  Alas it was not a happy ending for the lamp, read on to find out more.20160205_181644

They also wanted to feel more connected to their beautiful garden with its stunning views.  And it’s always nice to see some before shots, so here you go…

The new extension now connected the house to the garage, where a utility area would be created.  One full wall was entirely constructed of bi-fold doors, this ensured the space felt extremely light and airy but also provided the full benefit of the stunning view across the valley.

The units the client chose had a simple, clean lined, white finish, and initially the client was leaning towards all white walls, however I was able to persuade them that a soft green would lend itself to linking the space with the garden more effectively.

At around this point, we discovered that the electrician had deemed the light fitting hazardous!  So from being the original inspiration, it was no longer going to feature in the space.  However, this didn’t dampen the clients’ enthusiasm.  The colour scheme was altered accordingly.  The final colour scheme remained white, with the selected green on two walls and a new highlight colour of red was introduced.

The combination of contrasting and complementary colours means that the end result is a fantastic modern space but with an inviting, comfortable and accessible feel.  The whole family really enjoy using it.  It holds great parties and one friend recently told the client, they “want to move house so they can have a kitchen like theirs!”
